"We'll See" - first listen after recording Percussion - MIXTURE with Joey Stuckey

We had just recorded Miguel "no relation to the dictator" Castro's percussion tracks and were listening to the entire track for the first time....then we had a discussion about adding in some additional percussion.

"We'll See" is a track on Joey Stuckey's upcoming release MIXTURE. The tune was written by Joey and Tom Rule. MIXTURE is being recorded at ShadowSound Studios, and is on track for release in the early part of 2012!

If you'd like to keep up with the news as this production proceeds, subscribe! More videos, pictures, and commentary to come!

This video was recorded with a small Nikon digital still camera,
so the audio is fairly wretched.

New Album coming: Accessible Depth

In between the Joey Stuckey Album MIXTURE and the teaching and stuff, i've also been working on a new album of keyboard originals titled Accessible Depth. It will feature 10 tracks of mostly piano music, but has a few fully-fleshed out tunes. All are originals - except for "At The Cross", which is an original arrangement of the old hymn tune.

Church, meet jazz!

Actually, At The Cross originally appeared on the album Seasons by tom&co. I like that version so much I thought I'd reuse it....especially since it was recorded at 3 in the morning after a 14 hour marathon recording session. We recorded two takes - if I remember correctly it was just me, the engineer Mark Baltzglier, and the drummer Dennis Palmer (who was just hanging around to watch). Both takes were excellent - I remember it took us a while to decide which take to keep.

So watch this space for more news coming up - I'm hoping to get this thing back before Thanksgiving, but have a lot of work to do on it in the meantime!

It will be available over on CDbaby, iTunes, at my own site (MacMusicGuy.com) and eventually Spotify and Last.fm.

Watch this space - or remember you can subscribe and get an email when I post something here.

Give 5 tracking set 3

Miguel "No Relation to the Dictator" Castro cutting some tracks to Give 5, from Joey Stuckey's new album MIXTURE.

We were thinking the drum tracks were done, and then Miguel brought in a pair of Brazilian-made drums - a rebolo and a casa vallenata - that just added some serious magic to the tracks.

Give 5 tracking set 2

Pictures taken while recording the drums and percussion tracks of Give 5, from Joey Stuckey's new album MIXTURE at ShadowSound studios. Some of these are just miscellaneous things stashed around the studio. Kinda makes the place pleasantly funky!

Miguel Castro played a couple of Brazilian made instruments on Give 5 - a Rebolo and a Casa Vallenata. They really added some magic to the track!

You just never know the kinds of things stashed in corners in studios!

There's no telling what things you find placed on monitors in studios. Here's what it looks like in Shadowsound!
