MIXTURE: tracking some melodies

Gee, don't we look "glamorous"????

Joey resetting the software to get another take.

Mmmm.....nothing sparks good music creation like Dunkin Donuts coffee!

Give 5 - recording the melody

We were laying down the basic melody to Give 5 here. The tune's title is a tip o' the hat to Dave Brubeck.

The music under the titles is a VERY early version of another tune from MIXTURE - DotDotDot.

Our "to do list" - posted on the side of the computer cabinet.
Fortunately we've gotten more done since I took this shot!

There are all sorts of toys around the studio. For example:

The Jade console at Shadowsound.
I'm looking forward to hearing it in full action when we start mixing in the next few weeks.

Windows Down, from MIXTURE

Here is a video of Joey cutting the melody to Windows Down from the album MIXTURE, Joey's newest project on Senate Records.

Wait - Joey is blind. Who put the music stand in front of him?

Windows Down was co-written by Joey Stuckey [BMI] and Tom Rule [ASCAP].

Mixture update

During one of the sessions the AC started leaking because of a plugged drain hole. We moved the electronic drums out of the way and plopped a metal trash can under it - which made this AWESOME sound. Naturally, we recorded it!

You can see more pix of the session on Facebook!

"Mixture" update.....

We had 3 good sessions last week laying down guitar parts on Mixture. These are coming together nicely. The cool thing about this project is the excellent blend of pre-planning and happenstance creativity that is going on.

Joey Stuckey & I started writing this material during the Summer of 2010 I spent the first part of THIS summer laying out and recording the basic tracks in "the outhouse", my project studio - some are meant for demo (mostly the drum stuff), some were ideas, and some were meant for definite usage.

We will actually keep more of the rough drum material (keyboard percussion, mostly) than I was expecting.

We had several happy accidents last week on Give 5 that proved to be verrrrry interesting.

This week: tightening up a few guitar parts, adding some flute to Give 5 with Monty Cole, and who knows what else!

Coming soon: short video clips and some pix. Keep an eye out!
